Lucky tonight I'm not so tired to write post, collectors were asking me why no new updates to my blog when they met me in the swap meet event. Perhaps, you still remember me and this diecast blog.
The school holiday started this week, and the shopping malls are full with parents and kids. Most of the retailers take the opportunity having sales to stimulate the buying power.
What I observed from the toy departments, most of the diecast distributors have discount on their items but yet nothing on Hot Wheels.
Market Summary:
Tomica - I see is biggest alternative to Hot Wheels, reduced price from RM12.90 to RM10.90 plus 20% discount, that means RM8.70, 32% discount.
Maisto - Covers most of 1/43, 1/24 and 1/18 markets, reasonable price with now 20% discount. Latest 1/64 models have better build, price at RM4.90 with 10% discount.
Realtoy - Real live models, good build quality, selling at discounted price RM3.00 at Tesco, amazing!
In contrast, Hot Wheels missed the boat, currently stuck at high price and old assortments. Kids and collectors are looking out for alternative and fresh models. Market is shrinking month by month, week by week, our GDP this year is -ve 5, the actual number will be greater than this.
People looking for?
People are looking for value-for-money, or good items at cheaper price, warehouse sales for branded stuff explained, In other word, price war. Most of the manufactures and distributors are letting go inventories for cash, no one knows what will happen next quarter, but for sure, it will gets worst before it gets better.
The same message has passed to the correct person, the answer I have is "Patience... It will start", hopefully, that will be a great one.

Tomica Marked Down

Litt Tak readjusted price to their 5 models from Tomica regular series to RM9.90 from RM12.90 started from April fool day.
The notice already on most of the department stores, repost here in case some did not noticed.
Models on new price are,

#28 Honda Elysion
#33 Toyota Vitz
#40 Mitsuoka Viewt
My View
I have lost touch with Tomica for a while, can't really tell which is the newer models from the list. In fact most of the collectors do feel the same.
If just selection from the outlook, I will pick the 2 in green colours. In fact I already bought it.
This doesn't seen as the promotion for short period of time, as from the observation, Sale for the Japanise brand has been affected on the later market movement.
This can easily tell from the statistic from the discussion boards, post on the Tomica board is less than 1/10 of the Hot Wheels speed, diecast collectors are now more into Hot Wheels collection.
Bottom Line
No doubt Tomica produced good diecast, if Litt Tak seriously like to regain the market, they should consider readjust back to last year price , RM7.90, better still RM7.50. This will blur out the line with Hot Wheels on RM6.50, gain back from volume in the long run, rather than death stocks in hand.
RM12.90 isn't a affortable price to most people see it as a toy, what about the limited on RM29.90.

Review: Tomica #17 Nissan Cube
Haven't been review Tomica for long, I do this for those did not notice the Cube is here. I know there are many Cube fans in Malaysia. I bought this something ago when it just arrived at Litt Tak Hobby Shop. (I think quite a while back)
The little car was released by Tomica last year December 20th. It is a brand new casting under 2008 1st release. Still remember it were some leak pictures in the Tomica Flickr group with many colour variant. (Believed is for colour testing)
I would say this is quite a cute little car in its design, although it is small in size, but it actually solid when you hold it in hand. The front is quite plain, but you can see the Nissan logo clearly.
The attraction of the car is actually at the back. The where the unique signature of the Cube design, continues curve window to the side. Hah, of course the "cube" emblem at the bottom.
Verdict: I'm not a of Nissan but I can't deny it is cute! Custom it to pink will be sweet :)
I Like: Adorable shape and design, solid and heavy.
I Dislike: Lag of details, no feature other than suspension, lastly colour - cute car should come in lovely colour.

My old old Toys
I managed to dig out my old toys during the Chinese New Year Holiday back to my hometown.
Many have already damaged here and there, kind of regret did not take good care of them during young age.
Those survived have come antique to me, the Tomica and Majorette certainly not less than 25 years, they are my childhood memories.
I still seaching for my M.A.S.K., I guess they should have taken by my cousins when I left to study in KL. OMG!

Tomica Collections, how many do you have?
I started collecting Tomica only May last year, I have not time to sort out my inventory until my leave took on 1st week of 2009.
It took me hours to "stock check" and "packaging", the final result is stored at the deep corner of my store room. These will be my son treasure one day later.
After 8 months journey, I realist I almost completed 120 numbers. There are only few numbers that I skip, I may need to consider complete the whole 120 models since I came so far.
1st I need to find out why I skip those numbers, It could be I overlooked or not existent in Malaysia. ☺YeoCP//
