Water Slide Decal Paper Q&A

In fact in also new to this and I try to explain all I knew.

Type of Decal
I'm not sure what other usage for decal paper, but I'm using it for the modeling customization. It looked like the glossy paper we use for the photo printing. There are 2 type of water slide decal paper, inkjet and laser printer. Inkjet are more commonly use due to colour laser printer is still expensive. To protect the ink from dissolve in the water, you need to spay a layer a clear coat before you can start working on it.

Laser Decal
I'm not going too deep in to Inkjet decal because the one I'm using is laser decal. Same here, 2 type a decals for laser, clear and white. They are exist for different usage.

Clear Decal
Whole sheet is clear until you print out the colour on it. It is very easy to use because you do not need to cut it near to the designs. You will not see the edge very much after you applied to the model. Printer won't print out white, so you need the white decal paper to do it.

White Decal
In white colour, unless your model is white, you need to trim it as near as to the design, otherwise the excess is can be obviously seen.

Preparation
You need to waste few sheets before you can get it right. Each printer type is different for it print out quality and paper type. There is not standard guide to follow but try and error.

Decal Printing
Before you print on decal paper, try it on normal A4 paper to get the right colour and size. Avoid small portion printing because it going to waste your rest of the paper. Accumulate multiple designs and print all in one go.

Applying Decal
Cut the design out and dip in to water for 10~15 seconds. Slide the decal to the surface and adjust position by finger. Wipe the water gently and let dry for 24 hours.

Clear Coating
To protect the decal paper especially your decals are small. It tend to come out if it is not dry enough.

Where to get?
I think you only interested in this, you are lucky if you can find it locally. Most people I know get it from overseas.

They usually supply in pack of 50 to 100 sheets, including the shipment it will cost you less than RM10/sheet to get it in quantity of 100.

Verdict
Clear are easier to use, but you need small quantity of white sheet in case of anything. Group with few people to share the cost, or else you will never get started for your 1st decal. Trust me!

Featured Car: Custom Tomica Mini Cooper

My simple modification work on this Mini Cooper. The Tomica regular has very plain, or rather boring light metallic blue colour on both body and top.

With the added British flag on top, it looks just classy. I remember there is one Mini Cooper in the Lottery series with the British flag.

But I don't think it as good as mine with the wave effect flag. I will try out more options, but need to search more Mini Cooper which it quite rare in sight. Did you see any at your territory?

My all time favorite Vintage Mini Cooper from Maisto. I would say it worth more than the price I bought it at RM11.90 after 20% discount.

Although it may not have resale value, but it helps to compensate my Tomica #88 Mini Cooper. In short, it simply lovely. ☺YeoCP//

Featured Car: Custom Mini Cooper by Gee's Garage

I outsourced this custom work to Elgee from Gee's Garage, a upgrade version of the Regular Mini Cooper from #43.

I passed him my expectation of this modification, below are the requirements from me,
1. It has to be Tomica after the modification.
2. All rounded upgrade of the diecast detailing.
3. Absolute decision on what he wanted to do.

He requested me to pre-drill the car before pass to him. The drilling part was painful, due to the based is metal, it took me quite awhile to has it opened.

After that, there were few rounds communication on what he plan to do, and the 1st draft charges amount. He proceed the job after my confirmation.

Between the progress, he sent me pictures update. I can see the car details were building up bit by bit.

He rang me up for the pickup, the Mini was completed in no time! After saw the result, I didn't pay him for his work done.....Ops!

I actually exchanged with something he was looking forward, I appreciate his on the quality work done.

I request him to publish the work progress, please refer to his blog if you interested to know the details.

Verdicts:
We have JDMike, the master Custom Sifu from Philippines, but we do have Elgee, the Custom King from Malaysia.

This is best so far I can recommend if you looking forward to upgrade your diecast to next level. He is best in Subang and PJ, and some even said KL.

Chris Ting Tomica Fire Station

My colleague Chris Ting shares this latest work on this collection. I find is interesting and worth put up here for you. Below was what he wrote to me.

As mentioned earlier, I have now built my Tomica Fire Station. Material cost my around SGD4.75. Two A3 size card boards, 1 black and 1 red at $1.60 each. Some pins ($1.55 per box) to hold the cut-out card boards together.

With two sheets of the A3 card boards, it should allows us to build around two or three houses.

Well, even though it does not looks as good as those from Tomica, the fun part is I get to design the station myself and I enjoy the process of building it.

Featured Collection: Custom Tomica Classic Coke Trucks

My latest custom for 2008 Christmas, Classic Coke Trucks, 4 trucks to complete this collection.

The trucks build from Tomica regular #49 Yamazaki Delivery Truck. As you know this Yamazaki truck already replaced by the newer version, lucky that Malaysia has stocks on this item. It took me a while to source enough number to complete this series.

Mostly my time was spend on sourcing and design on the graphics, putting the stickers to trucks wasn't took me much time.

I made this design as close as possible to original vintage Coke poster to bring out the classic feel. Closer pictures on individual design as below, let me know your favorite, cheers. ☺YeoCP//

Design 1, Sex Lady (My Favorite Design).
Design 2, Santa Claus and Kid.
Design 3, Polar Bear.
